The most active states for hail in 2026 are Missouri (477 reports), Texas (400 reports), Illinois (375 reports), Kansas (342 reports) and Iowa (312 reports). Missouri leads the nation with the highest storm activity this year.

Why Track Hail Storms?

Hail storms cause billions of dollars in property damage each year, with roofing damage being the most common claim. Hail as small as 1" (quarter-sized) can damage asphalt shingles, while hail 1.75" (golf ball) or larger typically causes significant damage requiring roof replacement. Insurance companies generally allow claims within 1-2 years of a documented hail event.
