The most active states for hail in 2026 are Texas (665 reports), Kansas (608 reports), Missouri (597 reports), Iowa (430 reports) and Illinois (417 reports). Texas leads the nation with the highest storm activity this year.

Why Track Hail Storms?

Hail storms cause billions of dollars in property damage each year, with roofing damage being the most common claim. Hail as small as 1" (quarter-sized) can damage asphalt shingles, while hail 1.75" (golf ball) or larger typically causes significant damage requiring roof replacement. Insurance companies generally allow claims within 1-2 years of a documented hail event.
